Ronin is a multi codec video processing card designed to Handle the rigorous requirements of modern video codecs.
At the heart of the card is Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale FPGA. It is footprint compatbilble with Xilinx KU040 & Xilinx KU060. Three banks of DDR4 memory provide memory storage and bandwidth for processing compressed and baseband UHDp60 video. One expansion connector can be populated with daughter card that enable audio processing and provide interfaces such as ASI, 12G SDI or 10-G Ethernet. The card is designed such that when decoding compressed content the FPGA can identify the video format employed and reconfigure itself to match the input format.

At the heart of the card is Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale FPGA. It is footprint compatible with Xilinx KU040 & Xilinx KU060. RONIN USES Xilinx KU040 fpga to decode 4K video running at less than 75Mbps bitrate and Xilinx KU060 FPGA is used for 4K video running at more than 75Mbps up to 150Mbps
Three banks of DDR4 memory is used that provide memory storage & bandwidth for compressed & based band UHDp60 video. It uses 2 banks of 80-bit wide memory & 1 bank of 48 bit wide memory for UHDp60 video decoding.
RONIN provide interfaces such as ASI, 12G SDI or 10-G Ethernet.It has 2 Samtec SEAF expansion connectors to connect the daughter cards. It has a JTAG.
Compressed data can be sent over Ethernet or ASI and output can be driven over SDI. . Currently we drive 12G output as 4 quadrants i.e. Quad 3G-SDI output & not 2SI
Input power requirement is 12 V and 5A. There is a Provision for up to 40 A for FPGA. Length & width of the card is 250mm x 1 07mm respectively. Height of the card including heatsink is 25mm.
RONIN is capable of UHDp60/4Kp60 decoding. It incorporates VYUsync’s HEVC/H.265, H.264 & MPEG-2 IP cores. In HEVC, RONIN can decode four channels of HDp60 or one channel of 4Kp60 stram. In AVC it can decode 4 channel of HDp60 or one channel of 4Kp60 video. It can also decode 8 channel of HDp60 MPEG-2 Video. RONIN can also be used as an Encoder card. It can encode 4 channel of AVC HDp60 or 1 channel of 4Kp60
RONIN can be used as a multi-channel multi codec decoder card wherein it can simultaneously decode two channels of HEVC, one channels of AVC & one Channel of MPEG-2. The card is designed such that when decoding compressed content the FPGA can identify the video format employed and reconfigure itself to match the input format.
